After the workpiece coordinate system is determined in the CNC machining process, it is also necessary to determine the position of the tool position point in the workpiece coordinate system. On five-axis CNC machine tools, the tool setting methods of lathes and milling machines are similar. The most commonly used tool setting method is the manual trial cutting tool setting.

1. Tool setting of CNC milling machine: Assuming that the part is a symmetrical part, the blank has been measured to be L1 in length and L2 in width, and the diameter of the flat-bottom end mill has also been measured. After the workpiece is clamped on the milling machine table, it is operated manually. The specific steps are as follows:

(1) Manual tool setting: first make the tool close to the left side of the workpiece (using jog operation, which is subject to the beginning of micro cutting), the tool is at the position as shown in Figure A, press the set programming zero key, the CRT displays X0, Y0, Z0, the programming zero point setting in the X direction is completed. Then move the tool closer to the front side of the workpiece, keep the Y direction of the tool still, and make the tool retract in the X direction. When the X coordinate value on the CRT is 0, press the programming zero setting key to complete the programming zero setting in both X and Y directions. Finally, raise the Z axis and move the tool. Considering the existence of the cutter radius, when the CRT displays the X coordinate value (L1/2+milling cutter radius) and the Y coordinate value (L2/2+milling cutter radius), Make the bottom of the milling cutter close to the upper surface of the workpiece, press the programming zero point setting key, the X, Y, Z coordinate values displayed on the CRT screen are all cleared to zero (ie X0, Y0, Z0), and the system has completed the programming zero point setting function. The tool position point of the milling cutter is set on the symmetrical center of the workpiece, that is, the workpiece origin of the workpiece coordinate system.

(2) Establish the workpiece coordinate system: At this time, the current position of the tool (the tool position of the milling cutter) is on the programming zero point (that is, the workpiece origin). Due to the manual trial cutting method, the adjustment is simple, reliable, and economical, so it is widely used.

(3) Operation of returning to the reference point: use the ZERO (returning to the reference point) method to perform the operation of returning to the reference point, and establish the coordinate system of the CNC machine tool. At this time, the coordinate value of the current position of the milling cutter center (tool setting reference point) in the coordinate system will be displayed on the CRT.

2. Tool setting of CNC lathes. The tool setting method of the CNC lathe is basically the same. First, after the workpiece is clamped on the three-jaw chuck, it is operated manually. The specific steps are as follows:

(1) Trial cutting and tool setting the First turn the outer surface of the workpiece with the selected tool, keep the X dimension unchanged, retract the tool in the Z direction, press the set programming zero key, and the X and Z coordinate values are displayed on the CRT screen. All are cleared to zero (ie X0, Z0); then, stop the spindle and measure the outer diameter D of the workpiece. Then turn the workpiece end face with a knife, when the X coordinate value displayed on the CRT is -(D/2), press the set programming zero key, and the X and Z coordinate values displayed on the CRT screen are cleared to zero (ie X0, Z0), The system has completed the setting function of programming zero point.

(2) Establish the workpiece coordinate system The current position of the tool nose (the tool position of the turning tool) is on the programming zero point (that is, the workpiece origin).
