Plasticizing: The plastic material, usually in granule form, is fed into the machine's barrel. The screw inside the barrel rotates, pushing the granules forward. As the screw rotates, it also compresses and shears the plastic, generating heat through friction. This heat, along with the heat from the barrel heaters, melts the plastic, turning it into a viscous, flowable state.​

Injection: Once the plastic is fully melted and plasticized, the screw acts as a plunger. It moves forward rapidly, forcing the molten plastic through the nozzle and into the closed mould cavity at high pressure. The pressure applied during injection ensures that the molten plastic fills every detail of the mould cavity accurately.​

Cooling and Solidification: After the mould cavity is filled with molten plastic, the machine holds the pressure for a short period to compensate for any shrinkage as the plastic cools. Then, a cooling system, often using water or air, is activated. The cooling process causes the molten plastic in the mould to solidify and take the shape of the mould cavity.​

Ejection: Once the plastic part has solidified sufficiently, the mould opens. An ejection system, typically consisting of ejector pins, pushes the solid plastic part out of the mould. The part is then ready for further post - processing, such as trimming, finishing, or assembly.
