Products Description

Ordinary 3-axis milling machines can engrave complex products using software, but they only operate in the X, Y, and Z dimensions, and objects need to be turned manually and accurately, otherwise they are prone to failure. 5-axis milling machines, which are usually large and expensive, add the ability to mill two additional rotational axes. Our machines not only have 5-axis milling capabilities, but also 3D printing capabilities. They can be placed on the desktop and are reasonably priced. Their 5-axis printing capabilities break through the horizontal layer limitations of conventional 3D printers. Our machines are currently the only devices that can provide affordable 5-axis printing or milling capabilities.

What is five-axis CNC machining?

5-axis CNC machines have three linear axes and two rotary axes that work simultaneously to machine complex parts, often with an added tilt of the table or tool to enhance rotation and movement capabilities. The 5th axis allows machinists to machine up to 5 faces in a single operation, making the process efficient and precise, ideal for creating complex structures and features with minimal setup, and increasingly valuable in multiple industries as multiple parts require consistent machining of 5 faces. To understand the axes in a 5-axis CNC mill, it is important to understand the concept of machining axes, which is the number of directions the cutting tool (or raw material) can move to create the desired product, as opposed to traditional CNC machines, which are 3-axis machines with tools that can only move in the X, Y, and Z axes.

The tool moves as follows: horizontally in the X-axis direction; vertically in the Y-axis direction; and back and forth in the Z-axis direction.
5-axis machining centers extend the functionality of the linear axes by tilting (and rotating) the table. In addition, there are two additional rotational axes, the A-axis and the C-axis. The A-axis is also called the tilting table axis, and the B-axis is the table rotation axis. (According to common logic here, the original text may be a typo. It is speculated that the A and C axes should be introduced. If the B axis is not a special case, it should not be mentioned suddenly and incompletely in this context.) The existence of these axes allows the machining center to process more complex geometries than 2-axis or 3-axis CNC machines.

1

Simplified setup, efficient machining

5-axis CNC machines can machine five surfaces simultaneously, which is more efficient than traditional 3-axis machining that requires multiple setups to process multi-sided parts. It can manufacture complex geometric components with fewer setups, and complete contour and multi-sided parts machining in one go.

2

Achieve complex shape processing

Additional rotary axes help achieve complex designs and geometries, and can seamlessly process arcs and angles without the need for multiple special fixtures. It works well with GD&T annotations to generate datum features in one operation, suitable for CNC machining applications with complex contour surface tolerance requirements.

3

Ensure high accuracy and repeatability

5-axis CNC milling has minimal setups, reduces the possibility of errors, and can improve accuracy compared to manual machining. Different types of 5-axis machines reduce the need to reposition the workpiece, improve machining tolerances, and some machines can use shorter cutting tools, increase tool life and ensure repeatability.

4

Improve machining speed, quality, and save costs

5-axis machining makes the cutting tool tangent to the cutting surface, reducing cycle time and machining costs. The additional axis ensures the correct orientation of the workpiece, and short tools can be used for high-speed cutting with low vibration, improving surface finish and reducing post-processing costs and time. Single setup, long-life short tools save time and money, and processing can be automated, reducing labor costs.

FAQ

What size of workpiece can be processed by 5-axis desktop CNC?
Different models of 5-axis desktop CNC have different processing sizes, but generally the length of the workpiece that can be processed is within a few hundred millimeters, and the width and height are also within a correspondingly small range. For specific parameters, please refer to the specifications of the equipment.

What programming skills are required to operate this equipment?
For simple processing, you can use the graphical programming software that comes with the equipment. The operation is relatively simple. You only need to understand the basic processing parameter settings. For complex processing, you need to have certain CNC programming knowledge, such as G code programming, but there are also many auxiliary programming tools to help users generate codes.

Is the maintenance of the equipment complicated?
The daily maintenance of the equipment is not complicated. It mainly includes regular cleaning, checking the lubrication of the transmission parts, calibrating the tool, etc. Regular maintenance according to the requirements of the equipment manual can ensure the normal operation of the equipment and extend its service life.

What are the requirements for the selection of tools when this equipment processes metal materials?
When processing metal materials, the selection of tools should be determined according to factors such as the hardness of the metal and the processing technology. Generally speaking, for metals with higher hardness, such as steel, carbide tools need to be selected; for softer metals such as aluminum alloys, high-speed steel tools can be selected. At the same time, the shape and size of the tool should match the shape and process of the processed parts.

Can 5-axis desktop CNC achieve automated processing?

Yes. It can achieve a certain degree of automated processing by cooperating with automated loading and unloading devices. In addition, through programming, the continuous execution of multiple processing tasks can be set to reduce manual intervention.

What is the noise level of the equipment?

Under normal operation, the noise level of the 5-axis desktop CNC is low. It uses high-quality motors and transmission components and has been optimized. The noise generated during operation is generally within the acceptable range of the industrial environment and will not cause obvious interference to the operator.
